The Do’s and Don’ts of Skiing and Snowboarding During the COVID-19 Pandemic

At this point, we are all aware of the danger posed by COVID-19. If you’re like us though, you are looking to get back outside and to what life was like before COVID.

One of the best ways to spend your time regardless of the circumstances is skiing and snowboarding at Mammoth Mountain. To help you visit Mammoth Mountain or any ski mountain safely, the ASO Mammoth team has put together a brief list of do’s and don’ts for time spent on the snow. Check it out below as you prepare for your visit to Mammoth and share it with anyone else planning a ski trip this year!

Do Get Vaccinated

Vaccines are the best way to protect yourself and others from COVID and its variants, so take the time to get vaccinated if you haven’t already!

Do Follow All Posted COVID Safety Orders

We all need to do our part to make sure COVID doesn’t surge back anytime soon and shut down Mammoth Lakes or, most importantly, take any more lives.

Following COVID safety orders is especially important in ski towns like Mammoth Lakes where a large percentage of the population is made up of visitors from across the region and even the world. Not only does the mixing of travelers raise the risk of a COVID outbreak, but the fact that Mammoth Lakes’ medical infrastructure is meant to support a small population means that an outbreak could overwhelm the region.

We’re lucky to have outdoors that make social distancing not only easy, but even fun. Please keep the town open by enjoying the outdoors and following all COVID safety orders when indoors and staying home if you have any COVID symptoms.

Don’t Après Ski in Large Groups

Drinks and food are always better after a long day on the mountain, but consider enjoying them privately.

As much as we miss Après ski drinks and food, eating and drinking around large groups of strangers, especially indoors, raises the risk of transmitting COVID. If possible, take your drinks and food to a private location and enjoy them comfortably there, or eat and drink outside and enjoy your food with a little mountain air and social distancing.

Do Support Local Businesses

Small businesses all over the country are struggling to stay afloat, but the small businesses in ski towns that rely on visitors have been especially hard hit. If you’re in Mammoth Lakes, then please support the small businesses that make up the community of this town. Although most small business operations may be affected by COVID, they are still offering their services and products and would love to see you stop by!

Don’t Forget to Buy Your Lift Tickets Online

Mammoth Mountain and most other ski mountains are requiring all guests to reserve their lift tickets online in order to cut out in person transactions. Make sure you reserve your lift tickets ahead of your day on the mountain at Mammoth’s website so you can go straight to the snow!

Do Have Fun

Mammoth Lakes thrives on people having the time of their lives in the beautiful Sierra Mountains, so please remember to have fun while you visit even if you must do it a little differently then you’re used to!
