Mammoth Mountain is one of the most unique tourist destinations in the country. Both locals and seasonal visitors are delighted at the chance to enjoy snow in this California resort area throughout the spring and even into the summer. The friendly folks at ASO Mammoth, your year-round one-stop shop for everything from fishing gear to mountain biking equipment and Mammoth snowboard rental, offer some advice about the snowfall potential in Mammoth if you have plans to visit in April.
Mammoth Has Snow through Late Spring & Early Summer
At an elevation of 11,059 feet, Mammoth Mountain gets snowfall well past the times of year when it typically snows in California areas at lower elevations. Heavy precipitation continues through early April at Mammoth, and because spring temperatures usually stay cool enough that very little snow melts, the snowpack has even been known to last until August. From late April until October, it’s more common to see rain than snowfall.
In the Mammoth area, the snow sports season typically begins in October or November and lasts well into the spring and sometimes even early summer. In some years, it’s even possible to ski in July at Mammoth.
You Can Plan Your April Trip Online
This year, Mammoth Mountain will be open every day for skiing and snowboarding through May 31st, and all lifts will be operating out of the Main Lodge after April 18th. If you have your heart set on traveling to Mammoth in April to enjoy snow-based activities, it’s easy to purchase your lift tickets online. Many ticket options are available, including:
• Single-day lift tickets
• 2–4-day tickets if you’d like to enjoy a weekend getaway
• 3–5-day and 4–6-day tickets for lengthier vacations
If you’re not planning to participate in snow sports, you can buy tickets to ride the gondola, which will give you the opportunity to soar above the scenic snow-covered landscape and take plenty of pictures. After your gondola ride, make your way to the Main Lodge to get that wintry vibe while sipping some delicious hot chocolate in a cozy atmosphere
Mix Things Up with Various Activities
Another great thing about visiting Mammoth in April is that you can also enjoy some wonderful springtime activities during your trip by heading down to the Mammoth Lakes area. You can walk, bike, or hike along the Mammoth Lakes Trail System, and Mammoth’s camping grounds are clean and well maintained, so you and your family can enjoy campfires, fresh air, and incredible natural beauty. Fishing season usually starts at the end of April, so if you’re here then, you can take a break from skiing or snowboarding to get in some fishing at one of the area’s five lakes.
