It’s understandable to want to bring your four-legged family members with you when enjoying some time away. If your destination happens to be Mammoth Mountain, there’s certainly plenty of space to bring your cherished dog with you. As for whether you can actually do this, the short answer is yes. However, there are some things to keep in mind, which the team at ASO Mammoth, your one-stop shop for high-quality ski gear as well as premier Mammoth snowboard rental and repair, go over below.
The Lodges
Mammoth Mountain has several lodges and on-site places where you can stay. However, only service dogs are permitted inside these areas. This applies to both winter and summer resort operations. If you do have a service dog, call the lodge ahead of time to let them know. This way, special accommodations can be made. You’ll also have a chance to make any special requests ahead of time as well, such as if you or other family members have disabilities.
Outdoor Locations
You can, however, take your dog to some of the areas outside the lodges when you visit the resort. If you make a trip to Mammoth Mountain in the winter, you’ll be able to bring your dog to Minaret Road. You’ll also be able to do the same thing on the trail that takes you to Minaret Vista, although you’ll need to bring a leash. Just watch out for skiers and snowboarders if you’re over by the ski trail, which runs across the trail you’ll be walking on.
When summertime rolls around, you can bring your leashed dog over to the Mammoth Mountain trail, since it’s no longer being used for skiing and snowboarding during this time. The Panorama Gondola also allows leashed dogs on board during the summer months, so your four-legged friend can enjoy the impressive views. As for the shops and eateries located at the resort, it’s entirely up to the individual shop and restaurant owners. Call ahead of time to see what applies to avoid any awkward situations involving your dog.
Mammoth Lakes
Mammoth Lakes is easily accessible from Mammoth Mountain thanks to free on-site shuttles. With dogs in Mammoth Lakes, there’s more of a general rule as opposed to anything more specific. Basically, you can let your dog run free without a leash in areas where there’s no significant development, such as wooded areas or wilderness areas. However, in areas where there’s human development, a leash is required. This includes parking lots, the downtown area, and places where people tend to gather.
In the summertime, you’re welcome to take your dog to the lakes in the Mammoth area. After all, many dogs have a natural attraction to water. Horseshoe Lake and the two Sherwin Lakes are more dog friendly than the others in the area. Incidentally, Horseshoe Lake has a beach where your dog can play and roam. It’s also a spot where you can play Frisbee or fetch with your dog.
