5 Things to do with Your Family on a Winter Weekend at Mammoth Mountain
Unbelievable snow, endless activities to enjoy it with, and an incredible mountain town are only a few of the things that make Mammoth Lakes one of the best places to take a winter vacation with your family.
There’s so much to do in Mammoth Lakes during the winter that the ASO Mammoth team has decided to create a list of our favorites so that you can spend less time planning your trip and more time enjoying it! Check them out below and stop by the ASO Mammoth shop for the best ski and snowboard rentals in Mammoth Lakes!
Learn to Ski and Snowboard at Mammoth Mountain
Mammoth Mountain is home to over 3,500 skiable acres, but you can’t enjoy any of them if you and your family don’t know how to ski or snowboard.
Mammoth Mountain is a beautiful place to ski and snowboard, and if you’re in town during winter then you owe it to yourself to experience it. If you and your family don’t know how to ski or snowboard though, then Mammoth Mountain’s ski schools are world class and learning as a family will create plenty of fun memories.
If you’re visiting on a budget and have time beforehand, then we recommend taking at least one lesson before you get to Mammoth to make the most of your time and money. As we mentioned earlier, there is a ton of terrain to explore at Mammoth and the less time you spend learning, the more time you have to enjoy it all!
Take a Backcountry Tour at Mammoth Mountain or Nearby
Experienced skiers and snowboarders know that the sports have a skill barrier that beginners must get over before they can enjoy them. Safely exploring the backcountry on skis or a splitboard has the same skill barrier, but it’s much more important since there is a far higher danger for avalanches and other serious accidents in the backcountry.
If you and your family are already expert skiers and snowboarders, then consider pushing your skills by learning to tour in the backcountry during your visit to Mammoth Mountain. Mammoth Mountain provides classes and there are other guides in the area that will set you and your family up to explore the mountains for years to come!
Ride the Scenic Gondola
Want to see the beautiful Eastern Sierra Mountains without committing an entire day to skiing and snowboarding? Ride the Scenic Gondola to the top of Mammoth Mountain and enjoy the view from the summit!
Mammoth Mountain’s Scenic Gondola offers 360 ° views of the mountains on the ride up, and at the summit you and your family will be able to enjoy the view from 11,053 feet high. Plus, you can have lunch at Eleven53 Café for one of the highest meals you’ll ever have outside of an airplane.
Skate at the Mammoth Ice Rink
Nothing says winter fun like ice skating with snowcapped mountains surrounding you.
Visit the Mammoth Ice Rink in the heart of Mammoth Lakes where you’ll be able to learn to skate or free-skate during the rink’s daily public sessions.
Tube at Woolly’s Tube Park
No matter how old you are, tubing at Woolly’s is one of the most fun activities at Mammoth Mountain.
Mammoth Mountain has made enjoying the snow with your family as easy as possible thanks to the lift that takes riders to the top of the hill and the heated deck where you can enjoy hot cocoa and adult beverages!
