Which Mammoth Mountain Lodge is Right for You?

As the name implies, Mammoth Mountain does nothing small.

That’s why there are three separate lodges spread out over the base of the mountain. Each of Mammoth Mountain’s lodges have unique features that could make them ideal for your day on the slopes, so the ASO Mammoth team has put together a short guide to which Mammoth Mountain lodge is right for you.

Read about each of them below, then visit ASO Mammoth for the best ski and snowboard rentals in Mammoth Lakes!

Eagle Lodge

Eagle Lodge is the smallest of Mammoth Mountain’s three lodges, but it’s also one of the best areas for beginners to find their feet on the slope.

Eagle Lodge consists of tent structures that have a rental and demo area, a small shop and ticket counter, and an area where you can buy food and drinks and eat both inside and outside.

However, what makes Eagle great is the amount of mild terrain that is wide enough for beginners to learn on without risking running into one another or losing control on a steep slope. In fact, the only lift running out of Eagle Lodge is a wide chair that slowly drops riders on a flat landing above several green runs.

For that reason, Eagle Lodge is the best lodge for beginners.

Eagle offers more than just beginner terrain though, since you can access Chair 9 and the steep runs off it like Ricochet and Wazoo.

Canyon Lodge

Canyon Lodge is the most central lodge of all, and accordingly it accesses a wide variety of terrain.

For example, Chair 8 drops riders above several challenging blue and black runs along with access to Chair 22 and its expert trails. Canyon Express goes higher up the mountain to give riders the choice of riding blue and black runs or going further up by accessing High Five Express. Beginners can also enjoy Canyon Lodge thanks to Schoolyard Express which is a short ride to several green runs.

On top of all that terrain variety, Canyon Lodge has a wide variety of food and shops which makes it the best lodge for groups with different skill levels.

Main Lodge

Lastly, Main Lodge is home to the Panorama Gondola that takes riders to the summit as well as Main Park where the best freestyle skiers and snowboarders in the world train. Main Lodge also has plenty of options for food, gear, and shopping.

Still, the access to big terrain and features makes Main Lodge the best lodge for advanced riders. On top of that riding out of Main Lodge means you can get to the backside where there are challenging blue and black runs. Don’t worry if you’re a beginner at Main Lodge though, as Discovery Chair accesses green runs.

On top of all that, you can also access most of the mountain from Main Lodge since a ride to the summit or one of the locations near it will put you above most runs!
