Fun Things to Do in Mammoth for the Fourth of July Holiday Weekend

Cradled by the Eastern Sierra Mountains and peppered with hundreds of lakes and other amenities, the Mammoth area is a fantastic place to celebrate the nation’s birthday. If you already have plans to come here during the Fourth of July weekend, the only thing left to do is fine-tune your list of events to check out. The friendly folks at ASO Mammoth, where you can find everything from fishing licenses and mountain biking gear to Mammoth snowboard rental, help you out with this task below by spotlighting some of the things happening during the July 4th weekend this year in Mammoth and nearby areas.

Mammoth Lakes Annual 4th of July Parade

The Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual 4th of July Parade right in the heart of the town. The featured band this year is the Air National Guard Band of the West Coast. Make sure to check out the floats, too, since there’s also a float competition that’s part of the festivities. Attendance is free, but you’re certainly welcome to browse the local shops and sample tasty goodies at the many eateries in the area. The parade starts where Chateau and Old Mammoth Roads meet.

When: Monday, July 4th, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Air National Guard Band Shows

In addition to performing in the Mammoth Lakes 4th of July Parade, the Air National Guard Band of the West Coast will be performing at other times during the weekend. The band’s additional performances will take place at the Mammoth Lakes Shady Rest Park Pavilion.

When: Friday, July 1st at 5 p.m. and Saturday, July 2nd at 3 p.m.

Pops in the Park

The Felici Trio Orchestra will be putting on a show at Shady Rest Park Pavilion on July 4th. It starts at 2 p.m., so you should be able to check out the parade first before heading over to enjoy a free concert in the park.

Fun at Mammoth Mountain

Mammoth Mountain is another great place to spend part of your Fourth of July weekend. Most of the fun takes place here at the Village, which is often the hub of activity. In previous years, activities here around or on July 4th have included Chihuahua races, on-site entertainers, and live music.

When: Monday, July 4th, 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Summit Sunset Party

Another way to spend some of your time at Mammoth during the Fourth of July weekend is at the summit of Mammoth Mountain. This particular experience includes a panoramic gondola ride to the mountain’s highest point just in time to watch the sun go down over the Minarets.

When: Saturday, July 2nd, 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

4th of July Fireworks Spectacular

You don’t have to forgo an amazing pyrotechnics show when you come to the Mammoth area during the Fourth of July weekend. Taking place at Crowley Lake on South Landing Road, this year’s Independence Day fireworks show will include a dazzling 20-minute display. Admission is $25 per car, truck, or RV and $5 if you’re walking or biking.

When: Monday, July 4th, 9:15 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.*
