The ASO Mammoth Guide to New Year’s at Mammoth Mountain

It’s not every year that Mammoth Mountainis completely open weeks before Christmas, so New Year’s is the perfect time to cap off holiday celebrations as well as the true beginning of the 2018/19 season.

This year Mammoth Mountain has been hit by a few storms that have opened up the entire mountain, but that doesn’t mean the team at ASO Mammothwon’t be celebrating winter like it’s going out of style. If you’re lucky enough to spend your New Year’s with us at Mammoth Mountain, check out what we will be doing this year!

First things First, Let’s Talk About Ski Conditions

We’ve already mentioned that Mammoth Mountain is completely open thanks to a few early storms, but all bets are off for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day skiing and snowboarding. Thanks to the holidays and school breaks, New Year’s is one of, if not the most, crowded times for Mammoth Mountain.

If you’re planning on riding during the New Year’s holiday, we strongly suggest that you get to the mountain as early as possible. While crowded trails and long lift lines are unavoidable thanks to sheer amount of people on the mountain, if you arrive early enough you’ll beat the majority of the crowds and have a decent window to ride the best snow in the West. Even if it means turning in early and missing the ball drop, get to the mountain early if you intend to make the most out of your time here!

Bring Your Own Supplies

Whether you’re in town to ski and snowboard or are just visiting for the New Year’s festivities, you are going to want to stock up on essentials before you get to Mammoth Lakes. Thanks to the surge in people there is a chance that a product you need could be out of stock at several stores, so the more you bring with you the better of you’ll be.

Get your New Year’s Eve Plans Together ASAP

The good news is that Mammoth Mountain and Mammoth Lakes offer a wide selection of choices for your New Year’s festivities. The bad news is that the number of people in town could cause these events to fill up quickly, so if you don’t have your plans set yet you need to decide soon!

One option is the New Year’s Eve Family Fun & Fireworks event taking place in The Village from 7:30 pm- 9:30 pm. This family friendly event offers live music and a firework show at 9 pm to celebrate the New Year. There is also the option to purchase tickets for a ride on the Gondola that will give you a spectacular view of the firework show.

Several restaurants on the mountain, including Mountainside Bar & Grill, Campo Mammoth, and The Lakefront Restaurant, are also offering family-friendly special courses and parties to celebrate the new year.

Lastly, 53 Kitchen & Cocktails is offering a special prix-fix dinner menu from 3pm-9:30 pm with a champagne toast to celebrate. If that wasn’t enough, from 9:30pm-1:45 am 53 Kitchen & Cocktails is also offering a party with a DJ to keep the party going into the New Year.No matter what your plans are, be ready to work around waits and crowds while at Mammoth Mountain for New Year’s. If you have any questions about Mammoth Mountain or about renting ski and snowboard gear, don’t hesitate to call the Mammoth Mountain Pros as ASO Mammoth!
