Can I Ride an E-Bike at Mammoth?

We’re happy to report you can ride an e-bike to your heart’s content at Mammoth Mountain. The resort allows electric, or pedal-assist, bikes in the main biking area, which is the Mammoth Bike Park. In fact, e-bikes can be safely and enjoyably used along the more than 80 miles of single-track trails peppered throughout this popular Eastern Sierra location. Keep reading to learn more about e-biking and the many possibilities for e-bikers at Mammoth Mountain, brought to you by the mountain sports experts at ASO Mammoth, the only place you need to go for top-notch e-bike and Mammoth ski rental.

It’s Good to Know the E-Bike Basics

If you’re new to e-biking, you should know these are essentially conventional bikes with some extra pedal power added. You can rent one locally if you don’t have your own e-bike or you prefer to leave yours at home to make travel easier. Usually able to hold a charge for anywhere from 25 to 70 miles, electric bikes come in three main classes:

• Class 1 e-bikes – You get pedal assist up to 20 mph when you’re actively pedaling.
• Class 2 e-bikes – You’re still getting pedal assist up to 20 mph, but there’s an added throttle-power mode.
• Class 3 e-bikes – There’s no throttle-power feature, but you get pedal assistance up to 28 mph.

On-Site Lessons Are Available

Mammoth Mountain has fully embraced the e-bike craze that’s been growing in many parts of the country for the past few years. The resort even offers on-site lessons if you’re a newer e-biker preferring some professional tips and guidance. On-site e-bike lessons take place behind the Main Lodge. If you sign up, you’ll work with an experienced instructor and learn such things as:

• The fundamentals of e-biking
• Specific e-biking techniques (e.g., using the suspension, cornering, braking, etc.)
• Proper body positioning when you’re on an e-bike
• Tips on getting the most out of your e-biking experience

Private e-bike lessons and guided tours take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The private lessons are individualized and based on your skill level and other factors unique to your biking preferences and capabilities. Just make sure to bring your personal or rental e-bike to the lessons.

Note: Mammoth is offering 20 percent discounts off afternoon lessons for the 2022 biking/summer season.

EMTBs Are Welcome, Too

Mammoth Mountain goes even further by also allowing electric mountain bikes, or eMTBs. These specialized e-bikes can be used on all the trails found throughout the Mammoth Bike Park. This can be even more beneficial if you’re already a regular mountain biker and prefer some help with the more demanding trails.

There Are E-Bike Trails for Every Skill Level

What’s great about e-biking at Mammoth Mountain is the wide range of trails available for everyone of every skill level. If you’ll be coming here with your kids, you can rent e-bikes locally and make your way to the Discovery Zone trails. The elevations here are gradual and the terrain is smooth, which is also good if you’re just learning how to bike with extra pedal power.
